Wednesday, November 2nd: The Lowdown

This month, we are honoured to present the Lowdown – a group of young adult speakers sharing their first-hand experiences with mental illness and the stigma associated with it. Lowdown speakers have presented across the Lower Mainland in a variety of academic and professional settings; from which they have received an overwhelmingly positive response. Join us as the complexities of mental illness are rendered clear in a vivid series of inspiring stories, with a touch of humour.

Three speakers will be presenting for MHAC:

  • Robyn, now in her third year of First Nations Studies and Psychology, will be speaking about her experiences with depression and mania while moving to Vancouver and attending UBC.
  • Josh, who recently completed his BSc, will be tracing his experiences around depression and suicide from the beginnings of symptoms in high-school to present day.
  • Trevor, a neuroscience researcher at UBC, will be explaining his experiences with psychosis and bipolar disorder. Trevor is also a founder of The Kaleidoscope (a student-run mental health support group on campus).

Where: Henry Angus 354
When: Wednesday, November 2
Time: 4:30 – 6 PM
Cost: FREE for members/ $1 for non-members

The Lowdown is a unique source of information that cannot be read or learned about in lecture. This is a great opportunity to hear about mental illness from these current and former UBC students. We hope you will join us for this exciting event.
