Thrive@UBC: Portrayals of Madness in Film

Hosted in conjunction with The Kaleidoscope (the-kaleidoscope.com), we are happy to work together to bring Portrayals of Madness in Film during Thrive Week at UBC!

What: Portrayals of Madness in Film
When: October 19th, 2011 – 12 – 12:45pm AND 1 – 1:45 pm
Where: Norm Theatre, Student Union Building

Cost: FREE

We’ll be taking clips from movies, and discussing the films’ depiction of mental illness: was it a positive or negative message?  Was mental illness represented fairly?  What effect does film and media have on stigma?  These are only a few of the questions we’ll all be discussing in between movie clips, from Donnie Darko, A Beautiful Mind, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and Little Miss Sunshine to more obscure and foreign films.

Food/refreshments will be provided.  Not only will this be a great place to learn more about our two clubs and our missions, but there’ll also be signup opportunities and merchandise!  Come check it out!
